Reducing Perioperative Pulmonary Embolism (PE) and Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT): A Learning Opportunity for Your Quality Improvement Team

Pulmonary Embolism (PE) and Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) remain leading causes of hospital-associated morbidity and mortality. Despite advances in prevention, many hospitals have not yet consistently implemented evidence-based protocols, resulting in avoidable complications and disparities in outcomes. The "Eliminating Disparities in PE/DVT Prevention Collaborative" is designed to help hospitals overcome these challenges through a dynamic, structured learning environment. The program is intended for hospitals who care for a disproportionately high number of low-income and uninsured patients.

Note: participation is limited to hospitals that submitted a 2024 Leapfrog Hospital Survey.

How the Collaborative Works

  • Duration: 6 months of interactive learning sessions.

  • Format:
    • Webinars to build knowledge on evidence-based prevention and equity strategies.
    • Collaborative sharing and learning to apply concepts, analyze data, and design interventions.
    • 1:1 coaching calls for tailored support.
  • Each team will develop and implement at least one targeted intervention to improve equity and outcomes in PE/DVT prevention.
