Patient Voice Institute and The Leapfrog Group Partner to Honor Impactful Patient Voices in Health Care

September 22, 2015

The call for entries is now open for the first annual Patient Voice Impact Award, to be presented this December by The Leapfrog Group and Patient Voice Institute. The award, accompanied by a $1,000 cash prize, recognizes the winning patient’s written story or video based on its exceptional capacity to advance the impact of the patient voice in health care.

“As one patient, we can feel alone in our experiences, with little opportunity to be heard or to make a difference,” said Pat Mastors, executive director of the Patient Voice Institute (PVI), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to organizing, supporting and amplifying the patient’s voice in health care. “This project creates a community of patients where we can pool, organize and share our unique stories, voices and talents, creating a powerful new resource that can be tapped for the benefit of ensuring the patient voice is heard, and strengthening our collective impact at the same time.”

The 2015 Patient Voice Impact Award winner will receive paid travel and hotel expenses to attend The Leapfrog Group’s 2015 Annual Meeting on Dec. 2, 2015 in Washington, D.C., where the award will be presented. Several “Honorable Mentions” will receive a $100 cash prize. A composite video presentation of entries will be shown and promoted to the public, as well as audiences in health care, education, social services and policy.

“Our membership of employers and other purchasers believes that health care should pivot around the patient experience, not the other way around,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group, which promotes the safety, quality and affordability of health care through the Leapfrog Hospital Survey and Hospital Safety Score.

The deadline to apply is Nov. 13, 2015 at 6 p.m. ET. For more information or to submit your story, visit gopvi.org/participate/add-story.
