National nonprofit health care watchdog The Leapfrog Group announced today that Business Roundtable President and former three-term governor of Michigan John Engler has been elected to the organization’s board of directors, effective immediately.
“Governor Engler's deep commitment to improving the transparency and quality of health care in the United States is an ideal match for The Leapfrog Group and its mission,” said Laurel Pickering, board chair of The Leapfrog Group. “The Governor's executive experience and proven track record at Business Roundtable will be a tremendous asset in realizing our shared vision for America’s health care future.”
As President of Business Roundtable, Engler leads the association of chief executive officers of major corporations operating in every sector of the U.S. economy. He shapes U.S. business policy on global competitiveness, innovation, economic growth and job creation. Engler assumed leadership of Business Roundtable in January 2011, after serving six years as President and CEO of the National Association of Manufacturers. Business Roundtable founded The Leapfrog Group, now an independent organization, in November 2000.
“I am delighted to join the board of The Leapfrog Group, a powerful voice for increased transparency and better quality in U.S. health care,” said Engler. “Business Roundtable members provide health benefits to more than 40 million Americans. America’s business leaders recognize that providing more reliable, accurate information to employers and employees has the power to positively transform U.S. health care – and deliver better results for employees and their families. I look forward to strengthening the relationship between our two organizations.”
