The Leapfrog Group is accepting applications for the 2024 Bruce Bradley Fellowship, a yearlong education and leadership development program under Leapfrog’s Judie Burrows Education Institute. Candidates for the fellowship are mid-career health benefits leaders who are working to advance the safety and quality of health care for populations they serve in their communities and across the country. Applications are open through November 15, 2023.
“Employers created Leapfrog over 20 years ago to improve the safety and quality of health care for their employees and communities. Today we have new generations of business leaders who are even bolder and more determined to get value and excellence for their investment in health care,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “This fellowship program aims to turbo-charge their success.”
The fellowship is named in honor of Bruce E. Bradley, a founder and first chair of The Leapfrog Group’s Board of Directors, and former Director of Health Care Strategy and Public Policy for General Motors Health Care.
Ideal candidates are experienced professionals who work actively with or for organizations that purchase health care benefits. Applicants can be representatives of coalitions working with benefits professionals for employers, or public purchasers, federal purchasers or individuals playing influential roles in health care purchasing. The fellowship is not designed for health care providers unless those providers also have responsibilities as an employer offering health care benefits.
“Embarking on the journey as a Bruce Bradley Fellow has been a truly enriching experience. Engaging with Leapfrog leaders, hospital executives, and policy experts, along with the vibrant fellows in my group, has significantly expanded my perspective on quality, safety, and transparency,” said Janet McNichol, Chief Human Resources Officer at the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and 2023 Bruce Bradley Fellow. “This unique journey has not only deepened my understanding but also fortified my resolve to instigate positive changes in health care.”
Selected fellows will be announced in December 2023. Fellows will receive a $3,000 stipend and travel expenses for in-person sessions. To complete the fellowship, fellows undertake a project in their community reflecting their learnings.

About The Leapfrog Group
Founded in 2000 by large employers and other purchasers, The Leapfrog Group is a national nonprofit organization driving a movement for giant leaps for patient safety. The flagship Leapfrog Hospital Survey and Leapfrog Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) Survey collect and transparently report hospital and ASC performance, empowering purchasers to find the highest-value care and giving consumers the lifesaving information they need to make informed decisions. The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade, Leapfrog's other main initiative, assigns letter grades to hospitals based on their record of patient safety, helping consumers protect themselves and their families from errors, injuries, accidents and infections.
